Golden Retriever’s Efforts to Protect Family From Scary Laundry Room ‘Intruder’ Wins the Internet

Golden Retriever’s Efforts to Protect Family From Scary Laundry Room ‘Intruder’ Wins the Internet

Dogs have a natural instinct to protect their family, and one Golden Retriever takes this task very seriously, springing into action against an unexpected threat.

On February 20, 2025, TikTok user Madeline Sichak (@madelinesichak) shared a video of her very brave Golden Retriever who didn’t hesitate to protect his family from the scare in the laundry room. This good boy doesn’t miss a beat!

The brave Golden Retriever’s name is Calvin, and sure, the “scary intruder” wasn’t really scary or an actual intruder, but Calvin didn’t hesitate to go head-on.

Calvin’s family is having a good, playful giggle at how he’s so quick to stand up for his family, and that he doesn’t understand it’s his bag of dry food.

In the comments, people had a good giggle at Calvin’s bravery. One person wrote, “Not all heroes wear capes.” Someone else joked, “My dog literally growled instantly hearing this. As if he was helping.”

Other comments included, “So glad he saved you,” “Please thank him for his service,” “Mine, 6 months old, is petrified of the Netflix entrance on the TV,” “My Goldens do this too with our Purina pro plan bags,” and “And then you move the bag in the slightest and they book it to the next room.”

Do Golden Retrievers Make Good Guard Dogs?

Calvin is the cutest Golden Retriever, and you can tell he loves his family. Sure, his guarding against an “intruder” wasn’t really what it seemed, but at least he tried.

According to Dogster, Golden Retrievers are incredible dogs, popular for a very good reason, but they’re not the best breed if you’re looking for a guard dog.

“Golden Retrievers are beautiful dogs that most people love spending time with. As the third most popular dog breed in America, they make great companion pets for families of all ages,” the site shares. “However, can they be good guard dogs for households? The short answer is, typically not. This is because they are naturally loving and docile, and they do not have aggressive tendencies.”

Yes, sweet Golden Retrievers are too nice to typically work as a guard dogs. They’re more likely to make friends with the person than aggressively tell them to go away.

“Some Golden Retrievers may be able to learn how to guard a home after some training,” Dogster notes. “Stories abound about how Golden Retrievers have gone to great lengths to protect their family members. However, most Golden Retrievers simply do not have it in them.”

And that makes sense for anyone who has hung out with a Golden Retriever. They’re happy to get any attention from anyone and will always consider someone doing their best.

Dogster shares that while Golden Retrievers may not be the best guard dogs, they can be pretty good watchdogs and alert you when someone shouldn’t be there.

Calvin, though, is ready to stand on business and he’s very quick to alert his family that there’s another dog in the house–even if that dog’s really his food packaging.
